Public Health + Safety

Public health and safety are interwoven with all Boulder city issues; going deeper than crime prevention and clean spaces. We need leaders who understand, prioritize, and take action on public safety.

Where we are

In recent years Boulder has experienced an uptick in crime. Many residents and visitors avoid our bike paths, parks, creeks, and even downtown due to increasingly unhealthy conditions and disruptive behavior. Our businesses are suffering. We take pride in our compassion, and provide robust services to the unhoused, but overall our mental health and substance abuse resources are lacking. Despite our best intentions, Boulder can’t solve a national problem alone.

Where we want to be

We want safe and welcoming spaces offering a healthy lifestyle for everyone. Boulder should have a vibrant downtown, accessible parks, clean water, and safe neighborhoods. We want those in need to have easy access to our excellent county and city services.

How we get there

Forward Boulder supports the people and programs that protect our community: Boulder Police, Crisis Intervention Response Team (CIRT), Hill and downtown Ambassadors, Urban Park Rangers, and mental and behavioral health providers. We support the camping ban paired with accessible coordinated entry, homeless outreach, and ordinances to maintain the health and safety of our community. Boulder can’t reach these goals alone: we advocate for increased regional cooperation in addressing homelessness, mental health, and addiction treatment.
