Climate + Open Space

Climate Change and Open Space will define Boulder’s future

Where we are

Boulder’s ambitious climate goals and beautiful Open Space come paired with a declared climate emergency. The city struggles with ever increasing traffic and limited energy-friendly infrastructure. We remember the disaster of the 2013 flood and live with the annual threat of wildfires.

Where we want to be

A resilient, adaptable, green community that meets its climate change goals equitably. We want climate-friendly city design and alternative energy sources for cars, homes, and offices.

How we get there

Preserve Open Space, expand the urban tree canopy, and protect agricultural lands with their vital greenhouse gas absorbing capacity. Xcel Energy must be held to its promise of 80% alternative energy sources by 2030. Boulder needs walkable neighborhoods with a mix of housing options and expanded infrastructure for electric vehicles and alternative transportation options. Community-wide preparations for wildfires, drought, and floods are critical.
